OUR CAMP COACHES - THE V.I.P.S OF OUR ORGANIZATION

At Gold Medal Squared, our summer camp staff make up what we consider to be the most important part of our team. Our camp staff serve as a direct conduit between our client base and our brand.

Creating loyal relationships with high-character, passionate people who work hard for our customers is one of our key missions.

SCHEDULE Flexibility

We host camps every week from June through August and allow for total flexibility with your schedule. In other words, you determine how many camps you’d like to work. We are happy to work with you on a coaching schedule that aligns with your availability.

Who Our Staff Represents

The members of our summer camp staff represent the lifelong work of the late Dr. Carl McGown.

In addition to Carl, we have been heavily influenced by several of our country’s most decorated volleyball coaches. Gold medal-winning coach Dr. Marv Dunphy, along with Dr. Doug Beal, worked alongside Carl, developing effective, proven methods that work at all levels of the game.

Ensuring that Carl’s legacy continues is what drives us every day.

Our camp coaches represent Carl and our other founders along with the current members of our advisory staff, found here: goldmedalsquared.com/volleyball-coaches

We have high standards for the camp coaches who represent GMS, for our clients, and for the athletes that participate in camp.

A Great Place to Start

Some of our countrY's top coaches started their careers working GMS volleyball camps

Olympic gold medal-winning head coach Hugh McCutcheon, 2-Time Olympic setter Courtney Thompson, 2016 Olympic bronze medal-winning coach Mike Wall, 2016 Olympic bronze medal-winning coach Tom Black, Illinois Women’s head coach Chris Tamas, gold medal-winning coach Luka Slabe, BYU Women’s head coach Heather Olmstead, Arkansas Women’s head coach Jason Watson, former BYU Men’s head coach Chris McGown and so many more! While these coaches no longer run summer camps for us, it illustrates just how talented those who develop in our volleyball camp program are.

Training Opportunities

Becoming an expert with our camp curriculum, understanding the laws of learning, and having a baseline understanding of motor learning play an important role at our camps. We have several educational opportunities to help our staff further their knowledge before running camps.

Coaching Clinics

We encourage you to attend one of our coaching clinics. Tuition for these events is comped for hired camp staff.

GMS+

Members of our staff will receive access to our coaching education platform, GMS+. This includes courses, drills, and practice plans.

Internships

If you’re new to GMS,
we have an internship program that will allow you to be an
assistant coach for one week of camp before running your own
court.

Camp Overview

Our camps run June through August, with the most impacted window being late June through early August. We travel to the camp locations, typically a high school campus. If you are interested in joining our camp staff, please know that it does involve travel.

The majority of our camps are with high school programs looking to get a jump start on their fall season. The goal of a Gold Medal Squared Volleyball Camp is to integrate the fundamental skills and teaching keys, implement team systems, and provide a challenging but FUN experience for the entire program.

Standard Camp Schedule

We have a lot of systems in place to ensure our clients and the athletes are organized upon your arrival at camp. Each member of our staff is assigned to a team/court prior to camp and will remain with that group for the duration of camp. The goal is 12-14 athletes per court. It’s important to note that you will be running your own court for the duration of camp. Because of this, you must be well prepared when it comes to the material.

Camp Curriculum

Gold Medal Squared does have a camp curriculum that you should generally follow. This includes teaching keys, drills, and team systems. The majority of our camp clients bring us in to be exposed to our material. You must have a deep understanding of the information we present at camp. We provide a variety of training opportunities to ensure our staff is prepared.

Camp Assignments and Summer Schedules

If hired, you will be able to add your available weeks to a calendar within your GMS staff account. Some of our coaches work 1-2 camps per summer, while others work every week. This is unique to the coach and their summer obligations.

Court Organization and Assignments

We have a lot of systems in place to ensure our clients and the athletes are organized upon your arrival at camp. Each member of our staff is assigned to a team/court prior to camp and will remain with that group for the duration of camp. The goal is 12-14 athletes per court. It’s important to note that you will be running your own court for the duration of camp. Because of this, you must be well prepared when it comes to the material.

You Can Coach, But Do You Know How to

ADVENTURE?

Gold Medal Squared has been offering volleyball camps for over 38 years. No matter where you are located in the United States, there is a good chance we have players camps that are near you.

“Don’t Forget to bring extra shoes…

maybe even some cowboy boots.”

Seeing new places and meeting new people is one of the great benefits of working with GMS. When you are not coaching volleyball, chances are, you will be on an adventure in your camp location. Depending on where you go and who your hosts are, you will have a variety of activities at your disposal.  Gold Medal Squared Camp Coaches have experienced everything from helicopter rides, to horseback riding, to fly fishing.  While no activities are guaranteed, we have found that our hosts are always willing to show our camp coaches a good time.
