Casey Patterson Joins GMS Beach!

2016 Olympian Casey Patterson Joins GMS Beach!

Hi everybody! I am so excited to announce my association with Gold Medal Squared Beach. I was one of the lucky athletes to have had a year of epic and life-changing coaching from the late Carl McGown. His energy force and knowledge of the game was overwhelming for me as a young kid. I immediately went from spending hours bouncing  2 balls into the pipes at the smith field house (which I got pretty good at 😉 ) to hitting high and deep along with learning how to be mentally tough, a winner and playing the game at a higher level.

As a young punk, this was a hard transition at first but it only took a few one-on-one sessions with Carl for the wisdom to sink in. He played the most important turning point for me in my career. I am so thankful to have had Carl in my life and now have the opportunity to help build the Beach Side of his life work.

After graduating from BYU in 2005 I went straight to Puerto Rico to play professionally for 6 seasons.  In 2012 I stopped playing indoor completely and followed my true passion for Beach Volleyball. On the indoor side, Carl had molded me into a utility player.  I didn’t fully appreciate that until I made the transition to the beach full-time. Since that light bulb of appreciation, I have traveled the world more times than I can remember.  Furthermore, I have built a pretty nice trophy case that I know Carl would be proud of.

  • 2016 Olympian
  • 7 FIVB World Tour Grand Slam Medals
  • 22 Professional Championships on the US Pro Tour
  • USAV Beach Team of the Year 2013
  • AVP Best Offensive Player 2013
  • AVP Team of the Year 2013, 2014, 2016
  • Patterson led the AVP (along with Jake Gibb) with 13 wins from 2013-2016 (next most was five)
  • Patterson was one of just two AVP players (along with Phil Dalhausser) to rank in top five in hitting percentage in each of the four seasons from 2013-2016.

Aside from my professional accomplishments, the ones I am most proud of are my children.

I married Lexi Brown in 2005. She was a baller on BYU’s women’s volleyball team and was a scholar all American every year.

She has blessed me with 4 beautiful children. 2 boys Cash-10, Guy-8 and two girls Ray-5, Blake-2.

My family is everything to me and that is why I am so excited to be a part of the GMS family. I am so honored to share my knowledge, experience, and love for the game we are all passionate about.

Lets make 2020 the best year yet!

A big thanks to the GMS family for this opportunity!
