Clinics for Club Staff
"The coaching clinic that Tom and Mike did for Maine Juniors in early November (2011) was a fantastic step forward for our club and the high school coaches who joined us! One coach referred to this past weekend as a probable "seminal moment" for Maine volleyball. I think that to have so many coaches who truly want to get better at what they do, soaking up principles and ways to use them in their coaching was huge for this state. As director, I am encouraged and psyched about what we can accomplish as a coaching community for Maine's players. The clinicians tailored their work to our particular needs and questions. This wasn't just a "canned program". They put themselves at our service and have pledged follow up as needed. We've already signed on for the Tool Box and know we have their continued support to improve the culture and quality of volleyball coaching in Maine."

Our coaching clinics combine a lifetime of research, study, and practical application into the finest coaching education experience anywhere. Based on results and feedback, we are convinced that this will be the best coaching clinic your staff will ever attend.
How does the schedule work?
We provide around 18 hours of instruction over 2.5 days in both the classroom and gym. While we can work with you to accommodate your needs, a typical weekend schedule looks like this:
- Friday evening: 6:00-10:00 pm
- Saturday: 8:30 am - 6:00 pm
- Sunday: 8:30 am - 3:00 pm
What will we learn?
We pride ourselves on providing a top to bottom learning experience. We begin with an introduction to our principles, the science behind our methods, and a fundamental basis for all our decisions and teaching. We then cover the instruction of the basic volleyball skills, offensive and defensive strategies, and statistical analysis of players and matches. Moving on from there, we teach a whole variety of drills and thought processes behind them. Finally we look at motivating our players, training for fitness, and how to be a positive coach.
Who will come to run the clinic?
Our private club clinics are run by Chris McGown, Tom Melton, Ron Larsen, Mike Wall, Jason Watson, Rob Browning, John Speraw, Tom Black, and Chris Gorny; all are staff members here at Gold Medal Squared. To attend a clinic by one of our Advisory Staff (such as Dr. Carl McGown, Dr. Marv Dunphy, or Jim McLaughlin) you'll have to send your coaches to a scheduled 3-day clinic.
What facility do we need to host a clinic?
The facility requirements are fairly simple. We need a classroom space for the presentations, and court space for the gym sessions - it's nice if the two are close to each other. Typically we can handle about 20 coaches on a single court. We provide our own transportation to the clinic, as well as our own meals and lodging.
What does a private clinic cost?
Pricing for the clinic is as follows:
- 15 Coaches (minimum): $4875
- Additional coaches up to 20: $300/coach
- Additional coaches over 20: $275/coach
We realize that this is a significant investment in your staff and in your club program - those that have made the investment have told us that they are overwhelmingly pleased with the results.
The number of available slots for our private clinics is limited, so we encourage you to book soon. Simply click here to fill out the online application - we'll contact you to confirm your requested dates and other information.
